Are You a Candidate for Laser Eye Surgery?

If you find that glasses and contact lenses are not ideal for your lifestyle, you may want to consider laser eye surgery. Laser eye surgery, such as LASIK and PRK, can give you both clear vision and freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

However, like any other elective surgery, choosing whether or not to undergo laser vision correction is a big decision. To help you determine if refractive surgery is right for you, the friendly team at Associates in Eyecare – Bristow offer laser eye surgery consultations.

Types of Laser Eye Surgery

The most popular form of laser eye surgery is LASIK. A small flap is created in the cornea and folded out of the way, revealing the inner layers of your cornea. These inner layers are then reshaped using a laser to correct your refractive error, and the flap is then replaced.

Just like with LASIK, PRK involves correcting your vision by using a laser to reshape your cornea. However, in PRK, the thin outer epithelium is removed to reveal the inner layers of your cornea. After surgery, the epithelium repairs itself over the next few days.

Because the epithelium requires time to heal, PRK has a longer recovery time than LASIK, but it also offers a few advantages for some patients. Since no flap is created, there is no risk of flap-related complications. PRK is also better suited to patients whose corneas are too thin for LASIK.

During Your Consultation

During your laser eye surgery consultation, we will conduct a series of tests to determine if laser vision correction is a good choice for your eyes. We will look at several factors, including your pupil size, current prescription, and corneal thickness.

If you are a good candidate for laser eye surgery, we will discuss the benefits with you, walk you through the procedure, and let you know what sort of results you can expect. We will also address any questions or concerns you may have and make sure you aware of the risks and potential complications associated with the procedure.

If you decide to undergo refractive surgery, we will schedule your follow-up appointments, handle your pre and postoperative care, and do whatever we can to ensure the entire process goes smoothly.

After Your Surgery

After your surgery, you will require several follow-up appointments at our clinic. These appointments are important because they allow us to closely monitor your recovery and address any additional questions or concerns that may arise during the healing process.
