Symptoms of AMD

Patients with AMD can experience many different complications towards their vision, including:

  • Difficulty reading
  • Difficulty recognizing faces
  • Difficulty driving
  • Needing brighter light to see
  • Visual distortions

Types of AMD

There are two forms of AMD a patient could experience: Dry AMD, and Wet AMD.

Occurs when the small lipid deposits, also known as drusen, form underneath the surface of the macula, damaging light-sensitive cells. Dry AMD is the most common form found in patients.

Occurs when small delicate blood vessels begin to form underneath your macula, causing blood or other fluids to seep through, damaging your vision.

Currently, there are no cures for AMD. Optometrists recommend to have patients come in for eye exams regularly to help catch early signs of the disease, but other factors like making healthy life choices can help prevent AMD symptoms.

When to Book Your Appointment

If you think you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, book an appointment as soon as possible. An optometrists advice can help you manage and mitigate symptoms related to AMD and other diseases.
